Food stimulates the gall bladder to contract, but when the gall bladder does not contract, the bile can back up into the small intestines and stomach. This can happen if you are only feeding your cat in the morning and they go 24 hours without food, or it can happen when cats are anorexic. And the thing is, you don't see the "results" till a day or so later, so you never quite know what to expect in the litter box, or somewhere on the floor. Cats will vomit bile when they have an empty stomach. I do find when the balance between her wet food, and the gastro-intestional kibble she gets as "treats", gets off, that's when her digestive system gets out of whack. That was 5 years ago, and though she still has days when she throws up or has looser stools, it's mainly kept under control with the hypo-allergenic food. Her loose stools cleared up, literally, overnight. Once she learned she'd always have food, she started grazing, which helped a lot.īut I think the biggest benefit came from changing her food to novel protein (duck) hypo-allergenic canned food. Part of the problem was her "stray cat food obsession" in that she would eat all her food at once, so she ended up with long periods of time without eating. When I first adopted her she had loose stools, and would throw up clear liquid (bile) every day, if not twice a day, pretty much whenever her stomach was empty for too long. Ruby has never been actually diagnosed with IBD, but she has a super sensitive digestive system. You may hear the odd case that can still eat dry and not throw up but in general, dry food is bad news for a cat with a digestive disorder. IBD and dry food are pretty much incompatible. What's his diet? If it's dry food, you should discontinue that. (I really don't like the PetSafe and I don't trust the rotating ones-they look even crappier than the PetSafe.)

And there is a manual lock override so you can store this closed without having to remove the battery like the PetSafe. You can split the two pack into singles if you don't need to queue two meals. If you can't manage this schedule, I like this feeder for wet food.

The next thing I would recommend is a midnight meal or as late as you can manage plus his breakfast as early as you can manage (and still get some sleep in between.)
